Hey loves!
Secure your wigs and protect your edges because the launch of the year is here!
For two long years, Rihanna's used her spare time from dominating everything else to partner with Kendo, and create on her own line of makeup -- Fenty Beauty. Leading up to the launch, Rihanna blessed us with the campaign video for the line.
On September 8th, Fenty Beauty officially launched, and the entire line as a whole was amazing to say the least! 40 foundation shades on the first official launch.. FOURTY, with word from Rihanna herself that 40 more shades are on the way in future launches. Also part of the line are 6 highlighter pans, an additional 10 cream highlighter sticks, contour+highlight+shimmer trio sets, blotting powder & paper, 6 brushes and sponges, a primer, and a universal lip gloss. Whew!
Rihanna has done in her first launch, what 95% of the makeup industry has failed (and sometimes refuses) to do. Representation is important and it matters so much. Why should people who happen to fall under the darker end of the spectrum, be forgotten and excluded? Hmmm.. sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
She even took it further, by including shades for people who fall under the super light end of the spectrum, as well. An albino girl took to Facebook to share her Fenty Beauty testimony.
"Foundation is one of those areas in the beauty industry that has a big void for women at extreme ends of the shade spectrum. There’s this middle ground that's covered really, really well. But then if you're very pale or if you're very dark, there aren’t a lot of options. And so, I wanted to make sure that women of all skin tones were covered so they could be included in what I created." - Rihanna
Popular Youtuber, Jackie Aina, known for her honest and unfiltered reviews, gave us the "true tea" about the Fenty Beauty line. By the end of the video Jackie announced FB earned her guaranteed 'Jackie O stamp of approval'. She also left us with a very real, and very loaded quote, which reads
"White businesses get funded based off of potential, while black businesses get funded based on proof" - Unknown.
That statement stands true, as Rihanna back stocked all her products to last 2 years but foundation colors on the darker end have been selling out. Many people were shocked, but it really shouldn't have come as a surprise as there are many deep to dark skinned people who have a love for and taken an interest in beauty.
To all the makeup brands blowing up their Instagram feeds with "new shade ranges", after thinking darker skin-toned people just aren't buying makeup.....
...yall are late!
As for me, I could not wait any longer. I had intentions of simply walking into Sephora and getting my swatches and samples, but one product in particular really just spoke to me. Of her six Killawatt Freestyle highlighters, the one that I was the most drawn to was the "Ginger Binge/Moscow Mule" duo set. When I tried everything on the next day, I swear I heard a choir of angels singing. The way the pink and red tones looked against my skin, under the sunlight was Godly.
I also had the pleasure of taking home a sample of her Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longer Foundation, in the shade 390, and married it with her Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Primer. The results were ethereal and they, along with the infamous 'Trophy Wife', and 'Sinamon' of the shimmer skin sticks, will all be included in my next Fenty purchase!
In a world full of lip kits and contour kits made by people who did not take the time to design formulas to compliment and represent everybody, its nice to know that if anyone's got us, its Rihanna. I am genuinley excited for everything Rihanna has in store for us in her next launches. That being said, I should probably head over to the bank and set up a direct deposit to her since all my checks and coin will be headed in that direction!
thanks for reading...
xoxo see you next post!
